"Between Water & Home” 2017

Digital Photographs

Between Water & Home visually portrays the refugee crisis, whilst compromising with personal relation to the subject; It illustrates a process that signifies my general outlook on the case. The images aim to capture the emotions of a mother and daughter put under the circumstances of the significant issue; by providing surreal features, the images suggest different feels that are related to longing, blindness and loss of direction. Surrealism that shows to work with real objects set out in unfamiliar situations is the method that I pursued – A mattress that belongs home set out in the middle of the ocean or the calm understanding to being blindfolded are some of the key features that highlight these images. Using the technique of photo-journalism complements my outlook conceptually, i.e. sympathizing with the two individuals through a camera’s lens that only objectifies them. A major influence pinched to this work is the use of body language, showcasing a consistency between the conscious and the unconscious to communicate several compositions of sensation. As the photographer, I worked alongside these images to make them speak my vision consolingly, whilst finding voices for the silent faces shown in midst all the chaos opposing the composure.
